Don Bishop, senior counsel at Bishop & McKenzie chaired a panel at the 4th National Pro Bono Conference in Montreal this year. The conference created a national forum to address all aspects of providing pro bono legal service: from major themes to ground level challenges.
Don led a discussion on pro bono as a professional responsibility for our self-regulating profession. The panel featured such luminaries as Jeff Hirsch, a council member of the Federation of law Societies of Canada, Jamie Maclaren, executive director of Access Pro Bono Society of British Columbia, Steven Scudder, counsel for the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service and Peter Lodder, the last Chairman of the Bar Council of England and Wales.
Don spoke in both English and French, and led a lively discussion on the role played by pro bono servicing in preserving the self-regulation of the profession. It has been described as the best panel of the conference.
Bishop & McKenzie is proud of the great work Don does in the community.
