  • Legal Assistant for Real Estate, Commercial Leasing, and Business Transactions

    Bishop & McKenzie LLP Calgary is currently accepting applications for a legal assistant to assist lawyers practicing in the areas of Real Estate, Commercial Leasing, and Business Transactions. We are looking for a full time, enthusiastic, motivated person to work in a busy department.

    The successful candidate having strong Microsoft Word skills, exceptional organizational skills, and able to handle a wide variety of legal and administrative duties within the legal sphere. This includes the preparation of legal documents and correspondence, responding to inquiries and have a broad and thorough knowledge of concepts and principles is essential to this role.

    Key Functions:

    • Capable of handling busy practice with tight timelines;
    • Preparing documents;
    • Drafting and preparing of accounts;
    • Ability to work independently and as a team;
    • Critical thinking;
    • Problem solving;

    Requirements:

    • Monitoring the flow of daily correspondence;
    • Prepare documents based on written instruction or verbal direction;
    • Drafting and proofreading routine correspondence, letters and other related documents; General Assignments, General Security Agreements, Trust letters;
    • Ordering and completing searches from various municipal and government departments and numerous websites including SPINN II Prepare and examine Transfer, Caveat, Discharge and other land titles documents and submit same to Land Titles office for registration;
    • Reviewing searches, preparing reports;
    • Responding to inquiries, Good communication skills;
    • Maintaining files, entering time and preparing billings;
    • Prioritizing workflow;
    • Strong knowledge of basic legal concepts, principles, and terminology
    • Legal Assistant Certification – Two plus year experience
    • Direct work experience in a real estate and commercial real estate as a legal assistant capacity
