  • Experienced Litigation Legal Assistant

    Bishop & McKenzie LLP is currently accepting applications for a Litigation legal assistant to assist lawyers practicing in areas of Commercial Litigation, Condominium Property Law, Wills and Estates, and Employment Law. This includes a wide variety of legal and administrative duties, preparation of legal documents and correspondence, and responding to inquiries is essential for this role. Familiarity with ProLaw software would be an asset. We are looking for a full time highly motivated person who enjoys working in a busy and challenging work environment providing exceptional support to our lawyers and clients.

    Key Functions:

    • Conduct searches;
    • Draft correspondence and court documents;
    • Assist in pre-trial and trial preparation including maintenance of all trial binders and limitations;
    • Assist in the preparation of a variety of litigation legal documents including briefs;
    • Schedule various applications and questionings;
    • Manage workflow for team of lawyers;
    • Coordinate and schedule meetings and maintain calendars;
    • Preparation of accounts and time entry; and general administrative tasks including office and file management

    Requirements;

    • At least three years of direct work experience;
    • Monitoring the flow of daily correspondence;
    • A keen sense of attention to detail;
    • Excellent written and oral communications skills;
    • High level of sound and independent judgment, reasoning, and diplomacy;
    • The ability to prioritize work and meet tight deadlines;

  • Residential Real Estate Paralegal

This includes the preparation of legal documents, communication with clients, banks, mortgage brokers, realtors and lawyers whether by phone, e-mail or correspondence. Familiarity with Practice Tracker Real Estate software would be an asset. We are looking for a full time highly motivated person to provide exceptional support to our lawyers and clients.

    Key Functions:

    • Prepare residential real estate files from opening to closing;
    • Process purchase transactions, prepare mortgages, refinancing and supplemental documents, report to mortgages and purchaser in a timely manner
    • Prepare sales transactions, trust letters, deposit funds to meet closing dates;
    • Prepare interim/final reports, client accounts and correspondence;
    • Maintain client files and diarize critical deadlines;

    The successful candidate having strong Microsoft Word skills, exceptional organizational skills, and able to handle a wide variety of legal and administrative duties within the legal sphere. This includes the preparation of legal documents and correspondence, responding to inquiries and have a broad and thorough knowledge of concepts and principles is essential to this role.
