Bishop & McKenzie LLP Edmonton is currently accepting applications for a full-time, enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our busy Commercial Real Estate and Commercial Lending department as a Legal Assistant.
This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented and organized professional looking to grow in a fast-paced legal environment.
Key Functions:
- Draft and prepare letters, e-mails, and accounts related to commercial real estate and commercial lending;
- Draft and prepare necessary requests with accounting department to deal with trust funds;
- Organize and self-manage workload and files;
- Opening and preparation of files related to new and existing clients;
- Complete corporate and commercial real estate or lending related searches;
- Prepare documents, including revisions, based on written instruction or verbal direction;
- Proofread and edit all documentation for grammar, spelling, and content accuracy;
- Draft and prepare closing reports and accounts to clients;
- Use of Websites – SPIN II, Alberta Personal Property Registry
Requirements:
- Legal Assistant certification required, or an acceptable combination of education and experience
- 3-5 years of direct work experience in a legal environment (preferably in commercial real estate/lending) legal assistant capacity
- Strong knowledge of basic legal concepts, principles, and terminology
- Good research skills on the internet as well as traditional sources of information
- Present a positive and professional image to all visitors, clients, agencies, and other parties
- Meticulous records maintenance skills
- Strong customer service orientation and interpersonal skills
- Sound critical thinking, trouble shooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as a team
To thrive in this challenging role, you will embrace variety and have excellent communication, problem solving, and interpersonal skills. Familiarity with ProLaw software, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel), and Adobe would be an asset, and knowledge in Excel will be beneficial.
